CALS Outstanding Achievement in International Agriculture Award

Application Deadline: 
Due 3rd Tuesday in November to CALS

PURPOSE To recognize CALS faculty for outstanding international service in terms of teaching, research, or administration, within the United States or abroad.

ELIGIBILITY Must be a faculty member or a team of faculty members in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University engaged in the promotion and integration of international perspectives in research, extension, and/or teaching.  Recipients must be CALS employees at the time of CALS Spring Awards Ceremony.


NATURE OF THE AWARD $500 one-time stipend

CRITERIA Documented evidence of outstanding achievement in international agriculture including one or more of the following:

  • Extent to which the candidate has utilized his/her experience to globalize teaching, research and extension programs at in CALS.
  • Extent to which the candidate has demonstrated excellence in the areas of teaching, research, and/or service while engaged in international work.
  • Extent to which the candidate has fostered the transfer of benefits from international activities to Iowa agriculture and rural development.
  • Extent to which the national and international reputation of CALS has been enhanced by the activity of the candidate.

Guidelines for Submitting Nominations

The following guidelines are intended to help departments make their nominations as strong as possible.

Nominating materials should include:
The applicant's curriculum vita, including a list of publications and other supporting materials but not to exceed 25 pages. Previous years' nomination materials may be used if updated to reflect current activities.  Three letters of recommendation, at least two of which must be from ISU faculty, staff, or administration. No more than three letters will be accepted.  A statement of justification (less than 500 words).
